Westbury-on-Trym has lots going for it but is also suffering like other places. Westbury has maintained its own identity and until recently had many of the facilities of an independent town. In the last ten years, as elsewhere, these services have withered and died. Previously a banking hub, most are gone, no butcher, one greengrocer, lots of charity shops, estate agents, nail bars and hair salons. It still has a library, lots of pubs and eateries. The modern medical centre is in the centre of the village and nearby there is the Village Hall, a superb facility. There are many churches, Holy Trinity Church is the finest, bits are more than a thousand years old, and the local campanologists still practice there every week before going to the pub.
There are many organisations thriving in Westbury, from Scouts to the Westbury-on-Trym Society who organise the magnificent flowers throughout the village each year. There are excellent schools for all ages and pockets in the area and the Bristol University playing fields are here.
SusWoT is working to keep the streets clean, help people save energy, grow their own food, (there are large gardens and allotments,) support local businesses and look after the green spaces.
